Heritage and Hospitality: A Progressive Dinner Journey through Polk Home, Athenaeum, and Elm Springs

Experience the charm of Maury County with a progressive dinner journey through historic homes. Discover the legacy of James K Polk and immerse yourself in rich history. Tour three different historical homes and enjoy beverages, southern food and homemade desserts along the way. Arrive at Maury County Visitors Bureau in Columbia, Tennessee at 3:45 pm the motor coach parking lot across from the Polk Home (302 W. 7th Street). 11th President James K Polk Home


At 4:00 pm Tour the home of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk.* Your group will be intrigued with just what impact this little known President had on the landscape of our country.




Built in 1816, it is the only surviving private residence of United States President James K. Polk. On your tour you will enjoy a slide show, museum exhibits, gift shop and tour of the home, detached kitchen and gardens make an information-packed tour. Beverages served in the garden.

The Historic Athenaeum in Columbia, TN

At 5:15 pm board the coach for The Historic Athenaeum.* 808 Athenaeum St., Columbia, TN 38401. We will split the group up and half will enjoy appetizers on the back porch and the other half will take

the tour. Then switch.





The Historic Athenaeum in Columbia, Tennessee is all that remains of two famous girl schools that flourished in the area from the 1830s until the Great Depression. Built in 1837, the Athenaeum served as the rectory for these two schools and was occupied by the same family for over 130 years. Today, the Athenaeum is a historic site and museum.

At 6:15 pm we will depart for Elm Springs*. 2357 Park Plus Drive, Columbia, TN 38401 Enjoy a southern buffet dinner with dessert in this grand home. After dinner, the group will tour this magnificent brick Greek revival home.




Elm Springs was built in 1838 by James Dick, a wealthy businessman from New Orleans, for his sister Sarah who was the wife of Christopher Todd. It is now the International Headquarters of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. After your tour of the home we will walk to the brand new State of the Art Museum and gift shop which features a wide variety of southern heritage items available nowhere else in the area.
