9:30 am - Arrive in Columbia at the motor coach parking lot across from the James K. Polk Home. Our Visitors Center* (302 W. 7th Street) adjoins the parking lot. You’re Complimentary

10:00 am - Travel & Tour to Rattle and Snap (1522 N. Main St. Mt. Pleasant)* the South’s premier Plantation home. Built in 1845, this outstanding example of Greek revival architecture is unrivaled in sheer beauty. This beautiful home was built on land won in a bean game “rattle and snap”. It is privately owned and opened for you by special appointment.


11:30 am - Travel to Mt. Pleasant Grille* (100 S. Main St. Mt Pleasant) this historic building which Housed a pharmacy has been renovated as Mt. Pleasant’s favorite eatery. You will

Enjoy the décor with many posters of famous musicians as well as local history. The

The food here is an upscale diner and delicious. You will have a choice of three entrees when you are seated. A delicious sundae from the soda fountain is included with your meal. Sweet and Unsweet Tea, Water, and Coffee


After lunch free time to explore the Mount Pleasant / Maury Museum of Local History and various shops around square.


1:30 pm - Travel & Tour St. John’s Episcopal Church (Hwy 243, Mt. Pleasant) was built in 1839 - 1842 by four Polk brothers at the junction of four of the Polk family plantations. One of the few unrestored buildings in the county with the interior basically left it as it was when general services were discontinued in 1889. The church is open once a year On Whitsunday. A fine example of Gothic architecture, the church contains original fixtures, materials almost all made on site by family slaves, including black cherry.


2:00 pm - Travel & Tour to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church* (311 W. 7th Street, Columbia). It was built in 1860 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. St. Peter’s is parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee. Active church to this day. Reredos and chancel rail and second-floor choir loft at the rear.


2:45 pm - Walk & Tour President James K Polk Home* Your group will be intrigued with just what impact this little-known President had on the landscape of our country. A slide show, museum exhibit, gift shop, and tour of the home, detached kitchen, and gardens to make an informative–packed tour.
